The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed the qualification pathway for the 14-team ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027, which will be co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.
A total of 10 teams will gain automatic qualification for the tournament. These include:
- Host nations South Africa and Zimbabwe
- The next eight highest-ranked teams on the ICC ODI rankings at a date yet to be confirmed
The remaining four spots will be decided through the ICC Cricket World Cup Global Qualifier, scheduled for March 2027. Namibia, who are co-hosting the event, will have a strong opportunity to secure their place in the tournament through this pathway.
How the Global Qualifier Works
The top four teams from the CWC League 2 ODI Championship will directly qualify for the Global Qualifier. They will be joined by:
- Four teams from the CWC Qualifier Play-Offs
- Two teams that fail to qualify automatically through the ICC ODI Rankings
The CWC Qualifier Play-Off will feature:
- The bottom four teams from the CWC League 2 ODI Championship
- The top two teams from Group A of the CWC Challenge League
- The top two teams from Group B of the CWC Challenge League
From the Global Qualifier, the top four teams will advance to the 2027 World Cup, completing the 14-team lineup.
Final Lineup
In summary, the 2027 World Cup will include:
- South Africa and Zimbabwe (hosts)
- The top eight ranked ODI teams at the cutoff date
- Four teams from the Global Qualifier
This structure ensures that Associate nations like Namibia, and potentially Nepal in the future, still have a clear pathway to the biggest stage of ODI cricket.
With Namibia co-hosting the tournament and already showing promise at the international level, they are in a strong position to make history by featuring in the World Cup they help organize.
